Legends of The Ball III: Staceyann Chin, If Only Out of Admiration

It is like thunder. Her voice is like a boom in the sky, commanding attention, demanding her audience to take in all that she has to offer, all that is her.

From the moment I hears the opening lines of her poem; “If Only Out of Vanity” I knew that I was in love. Stacyann is unapologetic about beingĀ  queer, and militant. Through her you can feel the struggles of the very queer Black experience in both Jamaica and Amerikkka and the internal conflicts arising from being a Black lesbian in an environment that doesn’t support either.
