someone’s addiction is not about you
don’t make it about you
don’t make it about your hurt before you talk about the hurt of the person with the “addiction” with that person.
otherwise you’re being moralistic and judgemental to the point of harm.
telling someone to “just stop”, or “look at how you’re hurting me.” means little if you haven’t been there to support them in their need. in their particular need.
because community accountability is about us all being accountable to the folk we call family and friends but it is also about that community having the courage to be accountable to that person as well- no matter how difficult it may be to speak about addiction.
